The Ashford Arms Shortlisted for Prestigious ‘Best Country Pub’ Award

We are delighted to announce that The Ashford Arms has been shortlisted for Best Country Pub in this year’s Great British Pub Awards. This is a proud moment for the teams at The Ashford Arms and Longbow Venues, particularly as the only Derbyshire pub to be shortlisted in this category.

This achievement comes less than 18 months since The Ashford Arms reopened its doors in March 2024.

A national recognition

Running for more than three decades, The Great British Pub Awards, organised by The Morning Advertiser, celebrates excellence in the UK pub scene.

The Best Country Pub award recognises establishments located within rural or village settings that are delivering outstanding experiences across food, drink, service and atmosphere. A philosophy that is at the heart of what we aim to achieve across all our venues at Longbow.

Reestablishing a Peak District gem

Longbow acquired The Ashford Arms in 2023 as the third venue in the our growing portfolio, following The Maynard in Grindleford, and The George in Hathersage. At that time, the 17th-century building had been neglected for a number of years, and in desperate need of some love.

After a £1.6 million refurbishment, a new life was brought into the venue and it now stands reinvigorated as a landmark destination in the Peak District, delivering an enchanting and cosy premium country pub experience.

A word from Rob and Steve

“To be recognised in this category is a huge honour – especially as the only Derbyshire pub on the list. The Ashford Arms is a special place, and we’ve worked hard to bring it back to life while respecting its history and charm. We’re proud of the team for creating something truly welcoming and memorable.”

Rob Hattersley – Managing Director

“This shortlisting is a credit to the whole team at The Ashford Arms. From the kitchen to front of house and housekeeping, everyone plays a part in delivering the kind of warm, high-quality experience that our guests remember. We wanted to create a modern country pub that still felt rooted in tradition – and this recognition is proof that we’re on the right path.”

Stephen Atkinson – Operations Director

The broader Longbow mission

This recognition reflects our Longbow Venues mission since day one, creating spaces where people come first. Since our launch in 2020, we can proudly say our philosophy of ‘people over profits’ has always been at the heart of why we do what we do.

Our focus is always on delivering great hospitality, sourcing from local suppliers and showcasing the best of the Peak District – not just at The Ashford Arms, but across every venue in our growing portfolio.
