Bakewell Walks

Stroll a mile or so upriver along the River Wye to the famous little town of Bakewell. Head to the Bakewell Pudding Shop, feed the ducks on the river, or get some retail therapy at the specialist markets or cute shops. There's museums and churches to get your history fix or head to nearby Chatsworth House.

Thornbridge Estate and Thornbridge Hall Walks

Take a walk north of The Ashford Arms and head half a mile up the A6020 where you'll be greeted by the striking iron gates of the Thornbridge Estate. Stroll around 100 acres of stunning parkland or organise a house tour around the striking Grade II listed Thornbridge Hall. Meet and feed the animals in the Thornbridge Smallholding.

Chatsworth House

A must visit when you stay at The Ashford Arms, head to the historic and magnificent Chatsworth House - the jewel in the crown here in the Peak District. Tour the historic house, art galleries and sculptures, acres of gardens and historic and marvellous waterworks.

The Sheepwash Bridge

Ashford in the Water is famous for the Sheepwash Bridge, framed by willow trees and here since the medieval times. It's worth a visit and a photo or two.

The Magpie Mines

One of the top industrial heritage sites in Derbyshire, the atmospheric remains of the mines are steeped in over 200 years of history, politics and a widow's curse that is said to remain to this day. This protected monument is 2.5 miles south west of The Ashford Arms along Kirk Dale.
